Typhoon hits Pendarvis Farm!

We were able to pay Pendarvis Farm a few visits this past spring, as one of our favorite Portland bands, Typhoon, recorded their latest album. Check out some moments from our sessions … but more importantly, come hear them play at this year’s Pickathon Music Festival at Pendarvis Farm! A love letter to the light...

"To see a world in a grain of sand,
And a heaven in a wild flower,
Hold infinity in the palm of your hand,
And eternity in an hour."

This beautiful passage from William Blake's poem, "Auguries of Innocence" is Miri's favorite quote, and now, mine too.
It makes me think of some of the first photographs I witnessed Miri create. A long time ago, Miri brought a beautiful pear
home from the organic fruit and vegetable delivery company he worked for in London. It was shaped like the most
beautifully voluptuous derriere you'd ever seen. The way he captured the light hitting the 'cheeks' as it were, you felt like
you were looking at something a bit naughty.

Where novices point their cameras at their subjects, and more experienced photographers focus on creating an interesting
composition, the next level is where the real art resides: The mastery of light. It's what makes a subject pop out of the screen
or the page. It's the difference between an image that evokes an emotion and one that doesn't. Whether the light comes
from the sun or from complex lighting set-ups, understanding how to use and follow the light is a really special skill. Perfectly
placed light in a photograph excites your eye the way a beautiful melody arouses your ear. It's an emotional exchange that
makes you feel something deep. Landscape photographers will sometimes sit in one location for days at a time and wait for
the light to be exactly right.

Spring has sprung and it's a new moon today. We're so pleased to launch mirifoto.com at such an auspicious time. New
beginnings like this are full of anticipation and promise, and we plan to update our photos and blog posts often, to make
this a dynamic and interesting place to visit. If you like what you see, please spread the word about us.
